Aye
que rico! Castro kisses Nashville babe
If you know advertising agency owner Angela Evans, 30, you
might realize she's the only woman in Nashville who could pull
this off: Angela last week became one of the only American
women ever to get a smooch from Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Angela, a former Tennessean designer and
current owner of Double Diamond Design, headed to Cuba on
vacation last week with her man attending the dinner of,
Nashville restaurateur Jay Hayes, who owns Easy's in Hillsboro
Village. They got their way into a swanky annual Cigar
Festival dinner (where actor Anthony Hopkins was
puffing away), and Angela, a rather outgoing young lady (this
is called an ''understatement''), spotted Castro arriving. ("
Last Frontier Expeditions was the organizers of the tour and
one of the hosts of the dinner " )
''I said, you know we're this close, we need to meet him,''
she said. ''I started putting down some champagne and decided
it wasn't that much of a risk.''
Boy, that last sentence has applied to so many adventures
in my life. But I digress.
Angela drifted toward Castro's security-heavy posse, and
she caught the eye of the world's most durable communist
leader, who has a reputation as quite the ladies' man.
''I'm one of the only females, and I'm definitely the only
blonde. I kind of stood out. He reaches over one of the
security people and grabs my hand and says, 'Who are you?' I
said, 'Angela Evans.' ''
He ends up smooching Angela on the cheek and then standing
still long enough for Jay to snap this picture. Then everyone
freaks out because Castro A. kissed an American and B. spoke
English.
''I went back to my table, every TV station in the world
was there. CNN, FOX, BBC. That's when I realized it was a big
deal.''
